    Strange top mounts

When I tore my front susp down the other day I noticed that the top mounts look strange. Not only did they look strange, they didn't seem to be mounted correctly. Thing is, the strut wasn't resting on the bearing. The upper spring seat was resting on the outer rubber part of the top mount. Problem? Big time. On the left side the upper spring seat was badly worn. The steering has been making strange noises and I thought that the top mounts were just worn. Turns out they didn't really fit at all.

These top mounts are black with a blure painted top. They don't look all blue like the blue top mounts. The ones I bought, which were S2 Avant stock, were blcak with a green painted top. They fit alot better I tell you that. Anyone know what kind of crack-head top mounts that were bolted on to my car? I'll get back to y'all with P/N.

The number on the top mounts fitted to my car was:

      857 412 855

They do NOT fit that's for sure... Wonder where they're from...

Ok... So, I've spent like more than an hour (check post times!) on ETKA trying to figure this ne out. Can't seem to find any model using them either front or bach.

XXX 412 XXX X says it's to do with suspension, or rather strut to chassis mounting. 857 XXX XXX X tells me it's an UR Quattro item. I can NOT find any XXX XXX 855 X that's for sure.

In case you didn't know... VW/Audi sort all their parts after the second number group, in this case 412. The first three digits says which model or platform. The third group marks individual. The last letter describes a change in the part.

Back to the original question....what kind of top mounts are these?

In your previous post you've said, that part no is 857 412 855A, now you say XXX XXX 255 X. Maybe you wrote down numbers incorrectly and that's why you haven't find anything in ETKA ?

          Just my 2 cents.

Yeah KWLW... It's noted and edited. No, that can't be the reason as I by mistake wrote a "2" instead of a "8" in the later post but I got it all right in the first post..

The question still remains - what kind of top mounts are these?

Hmm... Might be a "3" then. It's really hard to tell (have it in front of me right now) and it sure looks like "8". Some sort of casting problem I think...
