Wheel bearing play - fixable ?

    Hi all

While poking around the car the other day (as one does), I noticed a small amount of lateral play on my left rear wheel. You really have to grab the top of the wheel and give it a good shake, but it is there. It might also explain the thrumming noise I can hear at certain speeds.

Now, I suspect wheel bearing play is the cause (??). Can one tighten the wheel bearings up (ie are they taper bearings). I used to do this fairly often on my old Range Rover, but then that was a somewhat different beast.

    Thanks

    HI Andre,

That rear bearing isn't tapered no. I'd suggest you think about replacing soon as the parts it runs in are quite expensive to replace should the worst happen!!

Sooner or later they wear out, mine need checking soon too :-((
