Is the whole gearbox stripped, which gear has gone? What were you doing to blow it?!

I think you'll need to go to a stronger box from a Ur q. Like an 016.

This may be of interest to you.

            Only 0,3 bars launch control...

Is there anyone there now anything about the s4 bi-turbo gearbox???

            Is that one stronger???

Or were to buy a UR 016 gerbox????

Type 85 Coupe quattro (016) code "US". Ur quattro box is 3.89:1 ratio, not suitable, unless you want to replace your read differential as well.

Ur quattro (MB) transmission is coded "APX" You can also use the transmission from type 44 Audi 100 quattro up to 1987 (early dash and door handles). Ratios are pretty much the same as the type 85 Coupe quattro with the same final drive. Although gears 1-2-3 are lower than type 85 Coupe quattro, 4-5 are slightly taller.

RS4 / S4 boxes fit fine, just harder (and probably more expensive) to come by.

AFAIK they're not a bit stronger than the wide 1st gear RS2 box.

Sienna, I think you are wrong, a US transmission can use the stock S2 rear diff as the final drive in those is 4.11:1, just as an S2.

Just my 0.02 worth of type 85q experience...

That's what I'm saying Mihnea, I think you misunderstood my post. I said the Ur q box is NOT suitable, as the final drive for all Ur quattros is 3.89:1.

My above post refers to the use of the type 85 Coupe quattro box ("US") as a suitable replacement for the S2 tranny. I refer to the Ur quattro torsen box ("APX") as being an unsuitable replacement fo the S2 tranny.

I am using the DSY (euro new S4 box) 6 speed. I had the same tranny in my built up urs4 and never had any issues. I just installed it in the coupe so we'll see how it holds up. Randy Pobst told me that its the same tranny they use in the RS6 race car and if you've ever watch them launch that car you would assume it is very strong. Of coarse I'm sure they do other stuff to the tranny to make it last in those conditions.

Like Ant said, I use the EDU S4 / A6 2,5 biturbo gearbox. After 11.000 km of serious abuse it still works a great. (touch wood)
