I would guess at the 2003 S4 box, the V8 must be very torquey from factory, is the drive from them compatible too tho?

put them on scale, which one weights more than other, has more iron in it.

I use c4s4 5 speed, it has longer gears than 6speed.

I dont know what 2003 s4 used as gearbox but they seem to have same
mainshaft as rs2 gearbox, for my opinion they are all same except for the
            1st gear.

You have not told what broke on your tranny, if its failure on 1st/2nd gear and
not an due to gear miss, or other driver failure, it is no use to change same kind of
gearbox, it will break. But if there was some other kind of failure, ie. miss in gear change or some fork or other internal parts, newer and lesser mileage would help.
