I went from 3B to lightweight alloy flywheel when having an uprated clutch fitted. It revs noticable freer, but with hindsight the flywheel was a step too far. The clutch contributes to a more agressive drive, but I also get a bit of flywheel clatter. It drove me nuts at first. Now I'm used to it, but the car has lost some smoothness. If work is ever needed in that area again, the flywheel will likely go back to a 3B.
Thanks guys, i think i'll stay with the 3B flywheel so. Engines an ABY but i picked up the 3B flywheel and front pulley to make it that bit lighter.
I'm going to start homefry spec but i'm building it with rods and stuff so i can upgrade turbo later and aim for the 400s. Also have an uprated clutch so comforts long gone

Would it fit on a 7A?

England must be a Country. :mischeif:
So to change a ABY to a 7A/3B i will need.
3B clutch, take the spacer off the gearbox, 7A/3B flywheel, release baring (which i get with the clutch), shorter bolts to fit the fly wheel? y/n
I think you'd be fine sticking with the 3B flywheel.. I used it, and really miss it driving the ABY now! The revs are much more 'reactive' though it's not quite as smooth. That is, unless you start getting good at rev matching where it can be just as smooth with the added advantage of being more responsive.
As for the lightenend fly, I'd say put the money elsewhere unless it's an out-and-out track car.
I always rev match with heel and toeing, its just the way i drive. Have to confess sometimes in traffic i change gears without the clutch just out of lazyness
@Quattro, i'm fairly sure you dont need the release bearing, its specific to the gearbox not the clutch. You do need clutch/pressure plate and a set of new bolts as there are different from memory. I'm also changing to the 3B front pulley/harmonic damper as the ABY has a huge one that weights a ton. Not so easy to do for you as the alternator uses a grooved drive belt vs the V shape belt on 7a/3b engines. For me it makes life easier as i'm converting a 7A which is basically a non turbo 3B.
Other catch is the engine block has two guide pins to line the gearbox up with, there are 10mm longer due to the spacer so you have to replce or shorten them when changing to the 3B flywheel setup.
I'm kind of doing it all wrong to be honest, converting a 7A with an ABY engine, with 3B flywheel setup, and then converting to a 6speed tranny

Bolts from a 3B yes?
So i need bolts to fix the pressure plate on and bolts for the fly wheel or just one of them?
I bought an uprated clutch for a 3B (iv got ABY) so do you think that i will have a problem with the 3B release baring?
