Does it happen only at a particular rev range, or a particular amount of throttle? Sounds like it could be a bit of transmission vibration, could be a gearbox or diff mount is worn?

pretty much through the whole rev range. I can feel its when torque is applied, but what puzzles me is its only in 1st (even at half throttle), but in second (at full throttle) it dosnt judder.
I changed my rear diff mounts. but only 2, I left the hard one that you have to move the subframe for (i changed em in my lunch hour or 3 in the office car park)
Have you got a 5- or a 6-speed 'box? Does the vibration come with any associated noise - whiney transmission? Do you have any problems with selecting 1st or 2nd?

6 speed box, described as a "tight" box by Tim (in a good way). No noise. Vibration feels like its coming from the back of the car through the drive train.
It feels exactly the same as when my cv joint on the drive shaft went on my 2.6 quattro 80. But happened in all gears. which is why im confused
I had this in my current S2 and my old 90 quattro, in both cases Few months later the rear diff mounting needed replacing (the large one at the v.end of the diff).
You will see that these are v.expensive from audi and specialist because they only sell the whole cast frame and the bush as one item abd cost's around £80-£150, but if you look for the uprated polybush that comes to around £30-£40 and you use the old cast.
If you change it your self it dose take, time allow a good day for it!
