    slick 50 etc. any good???

hi guys, i'm doing a gear box oil change and want to know if slick 50 additive or equivalent actually does anything, apart from relieving me of 18 quid. i'd be interested in your comments.

    thanks

    slick 50

i will NOT recomend slick 50 in the tranny, because the syncrings must have some fricsion to stop the wheel inside.....but you may use some in the rear end(without thorsen i think) and some have been used this in the engines......THE SLICK 50 have others name too, like SLIDER 2000,or similar.
i will NOT USE THIS OILADDATIVS in my engine or the trannys,or the rear end

do NOT use this on gearbox!! still not. the syncrings will not stop the gears around, when changing.

My feeling is if this stuff genuinely worked, they would already put it in normal oils. Save yourself the 18 quid and go down the pub is my advice!

Slick 50 GEARBOX oil has been in my car for the last 50K....

and I have had no problems with it. Other Coupe owners who have driven my car remark how my diff is quiet and purrrs. The mechanics who have worked on the car also say the diff runs so quietly and smoothly. Slick50's specs say that the product can be used on cars such as Audis Quattro models. At least in the States.

I have used the Wynns equivalent and found it excellent.

I put Slick 50 into the gearbox of my ur as the change was cumbersome and slow, changed the fluid and put some of this stuff into it and it improved things

I've no experience with slick 50, but I used the Forte equivalent in my gearbox and it definately made a difference. I was having trouble getting into second gear but no trouble at all now! We put the automatic gearbox treatment in a '91 Mercedes E300 a couple of years ago. I took it for a 15min drive and by the time I'd got back it'd found another gear!!! I don't think there's any doubt that some of these products work and surely they wouldn't get away with selling them if they caused any adverse effects.

                            Have read of this:-

Especially the section on additives, very interesting reading. Having said that I've used ZX1 in a Rover V8 and a Porsche engine and I swear in did make them both smoother, may have just been the placebo effect though. Having read this report I wouldn't use them again though.
Over on Pistonheads there is a thread going on about this stuff:-

                            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPECIAL-OFFER-...QQcmdZViewItem

The guy who imports it into this country sent a sample to Simon at Opie oils ( post on here too ) and he had it analised by a senior oil chemist at Fuchs. The report could not even be made public it was so bad. Basically they are all snake oil
