    Front LH Wheel 'Clunking Noise'

    Hi

I have a 1995 Coupe 2.8 V6 Quattro, (poor mans S2), and I've noticed a horrible clunking noise coming from the front LH wheel. It's a metalic clunk when you hit bumps in the road and sounds like something has come loose. I checked all the suspension bushes whilst changing the shock top-mount bushes last weekend and I can't find any worn out bushes! This makes me think it might be a CV joint, or something transmission related? When the car is stationary, you can re-create the noise by giving the tyre a gentle kick.

Has anyone else had a problem like this - or does anyone know what the problem might be?

    Cheers

mmmmm ... not sure but make sure and double check all joints and connections ... especially where drive shaft connects to and from

try getting front on axle stands and get better look underneath... physically try moving parts to check for play etc ........ gd luck

      Cheers Chris

I spent most of today under the car and finally got the bottom of the problem.... after jacking it up onto axle stands, removing the wheels, and begining to strip the axle down I spotted a loose bracket (the one that the two flexible brake hoses clip into). I zip tied it up because I wasn't sure if it was designed to move with the suspension or not? I re-assembled everything and took her for a drive...... the knocking had gone! I replaced the zip tie with two rivets and did the same with the barcket on the drivers side.

Now I can concentrate on the intermittent electric windows and the 'off the scale' oil pressure reading.
