Hey guys as some of you know already i have been making do without 2nd gear sincro for some while now and have decided its finaly time to get it sorted. I need help/advice on where to source a replacment gearbox. Audi want £2400 + vat I think my gearbox code is EG1 M6S My car is an aby coupe first regestered in Jan 1996.
You could try the audi breakers. I did that and got a box for my 94 avant for £390. I still had it reconditioned to be safe which cost an extra £350. I think most 6 speed boxes will fit with adaptions to the linkage, so the choice is quite varied.
Yours is a later, stronger box, which I was quoted around the £650 mark. Good luck!!

what about opening the box, verifying the syncro and gear condition, and just sourcing those parts, years ago we stripped the box on a 2.3 coupe, I think the hardware was about £90 syncro same again for the actual gear.
I'm sure there's a few places that strip/rebuild (obviously car off the road for a few days/week), I think Tom had a place down his way that had a good reputation for doing boxes (I'm sure it's in a thread somewhere).
Taking the box out is a bit of a pain (see numerous threads by Tom, me and a few others), but once it's out it's easy enough to drag it around for a few quotes or strip it if you've got the experience, most franchised dealers wont/can't do it , unless you're luck enough to find a master tech/oap that knows what they're doing
Hey if you're still thinking about future power upgrades it would be a good opportunity to go with the EDU box - an extra few hundred, but they're hard as nails, with that wide 1st gear and flexi shaft. If I had any money left, I'd me going that route!!
Yip that gearchange link is the place Tom recommended IIRC, you'll already have the wider/stronger 1st gear if you have a late ABY model , can be confirmed by g/box serial and/or looking at the exterior of box
That's a CBL box which will fit with your linkage, but it is a slightly weaker setup. That's the same as the one I fitted to my Avant which works fine! It costs about 300 quid just to open one of these boxes up, so watch out for oil leaks onn second hand units.
