    Help identifying 2 gearboxes

    Hey there everyone.

I have resently aquierd 2 gearboxes. One is an S2 box and one is supposed to be a old S4 box.

The letters and numbers stamped on each box is as follows.

    S2 box:

All the way at the front of the box.
    1132ARV22051

At the rear of the box
    01A301231

    S4 box:
    At the rear of box
    01E301231 F/C

    At the middle of box
    22891BDE

    At the front of box
    01E301103

    Image of the boxes

The S2 box is on the left and the S4 one is on the right.

My question is if anyone could confirm if its a S2 box and if its a 6 or 5 speed. Same with the s4 box.

    Cheers

I was always led to believe, 01A was a 5 speed, and 01E was a sixspeed.
    FA backs this up.

So seems the S2 box is a 5 speed and the S4 a six speed (don't think there was an S4 5 speed anyway)

Hope I've got this correct, I'm sure I'll be told if I haven't.

The ARV box is what was fitted to the 3B S2 Coupe between 90 and 92

Are there anymore 3 letter codes on the S4 box?

They should be on the main casing near the front on a machined part of the gearbox

The top picture looks to have the stamp CBD, I would have expected to see CBL or maybe CMG. I'm no gearbox expert though.

CBD is a five speed box as fitted to five cylinder engines.

Ok so should be a 5 speed S4 box then? When dumping this baby into a s2 with 3b engine would i need to change anything else except gear linkage?
