Any know if the above engines bolt up to the 5 or 6 speed box? If so anyone got codes? Also would I have to change the flywheel etc? Just thinking ahead for a project next year so no panic, just thought I'd start the research
Cheers

Both the 2,226cc I5 and 2,671cc V6 will bolt up to the 01E 5 / 6 speed box, as well as the regular 01A. All Audi gearboxes built after 1987 have multi bolt fitment. This does not however include boxes fitted to type 85 cars.
I haven't got codes, but as a guide, all boxes fitted to B3 / B4 cars are compatible, as well as type 44 cars built after August 1987.
There are different flywheel combinations that can be used, as long as they have 8 hole fitting. Spigot bearings differ, as well as clutches. Most critical part of clutch assembly is the friction plate, as the spline size has to match the gearbox shaft.
For both engine types, the flywheel must be a 240mm size, and must have the all important firing point senders. Dual or single mass can be used, but with dual mass, the appropriate transmission-to-engine spacer must be used, single mass requires no spacer.
Note the spacer for dual mass application on the 2,671cc engines using the matching flywheel requires a spacer thicker than the item used with the 2,226cc item.
There are so many variables and combinations, in terms of flywheels and clutches used, but the above is a rough guide.
