  • Gearbox problem 01E - but what kind?

My ABY CGR gearbox started to make loud ratling noises yesterday. After being parked for the night it went back quiet, but after 40km sound was back. Also the speedo did not move for some time. Now the sound goes on and off and is louder when coasting.

    Something loose inside, but what?

    Any thoughts from the video?

Yeah, quite a carnage I have to say. The driveshaft bolts had made their way loose. And after one bolt gone the plate that tights two bolts together had chewed through the end plate and driveshaft joint - hence the sound...

The car has lots of vibrations because of aluminium subframe bushes, solid topmounts and sintered clutch. Also the engine and gearbox mounts are quite stiff so have to clean the threads and put more loctite in the next assembly.

Good job you found it before all the bolts decided to drop on the floor
You have got nice lift there for your car .

The quickjack lift is quite handy to use in tight working space. And 50cm ground clearance is just enough for this type of overhaul.

Just dropped the driveshaft to machine shop who mainly focus on driveline stuff. They will try to source new joint for the shaft and fix it all up.
