  • 01e | gear, ratio, speed calculator

    01e.jpg

So I added a overview over different 6 speed 01E gearboxes with their ratio and added it to a colorful table.

It's not done yet, I've still got different boxes to add and check that the ratios are correct on each gearbox.

I've found out it's quite nice if you have a 5 speed - S2 and want to change transmission to something else
you can easily see approx what the mph/kmh output will be in each gear.
Or just use it as statistic to see which boxes has which ratios.

Just wanted to share it if anyone would like to check it out :

Cool. I've made something like that a while ago as well.
    It's in Dutch though

That's a great table but the five speed S2 box is missing, unless I'm being thick... I'm going to have a play about with the calculator now...

If you've got a 3B I'd stick with the five speed, it's lighter and way smoother than any of the six speed boxes, especially between first and second and is strong enough for up to 500BHP.

Honestly, as no one wants to buy it I'd stick the five speed out of my old S2 into my RS2 if it wasn't for the fact it would devalue it, in fact I may even still do that as I'm keeping the car forever and it needs a clutch. It can always be put back.

Well the calculator confirms what I saw on GPS at the top of fifth gear in my S2 so it must be pretty accurate, a 3B's fifth gear is near as dam it the same ratio as an S2/RS2's sixth. I'm really tempted to fit my old S2 box, it's so much nicer to use, I have a couple of spare prop's so that's not an issue.

Does the 5 speed hold that amount? Thought it was max 400-450Nm max before it would break.
I have to agree it feels good to shift

            This is cool nice job.

Thinking about re-doing the design I have and make it a lot more complex

It depends how you use it, you could probably break one quite easily launching it savagely with 450/ 500NM which is roughly what my old S2 use to produce, but there really is no need to drive the car like that... I only ever used first gear to get the car moving or for parking, I'd always be in second or more normally third gear before really opening the car up. I drive my RS2 the same way.

If you want a box for drag strip use then the six speed is a much better choice as the gearbox is under maximum stress under launch conditions, once the car is moving it's not such an issue.

If your going for anything bigger than an RS2 turbo or K26/7 hybrid then the six speed would be my choice below that I'd be happy with the five speed, which as I say is much nicer to use.

noticed yesterday, I will fix it
FYF seems like an excellent gearbox by the way
