    RS4 B5 gearbox in a s2 coupe??

Would a b5 rs4 box fit my coupe and be fine with the stock diff? I know gearbox ratios are a little different but thats ok.....
    I can't find a definitive answer.

    thanks for any input

As long as the box has the same 4.11 diff ratio as the original then it should fit fine, do you know the code of the box you want to use?

Alex would be the best person on here to answer your question as I know he experimented with fitting gearbox’s from B5-B6 S/RS cars.

I think gearbox code is DSY, definately from a b5 RS4.
My CGR box has an oil leak, its either the input shaft seal or even a hole in the box. I have the b5 box to go in if its worst case scenario.

rs4 b5 has 01e gearbox and has final gear ratio 4.11 so the same as the rear diff on s2. if your converting from 5 speed t 6 speed it will take a lot of parts to fit it but its not specific rs4 its by all 01e gearboxes that come in s2 rs2.

Yep, RXL is right, I've just spent half an hour Googling the subject and reached the same conclusion.

Thank you for taking the time to research. Question is would you refit the factory gearbox, or would you put the b5 box in while you were there? Also its had repair work to the syncro's an been checked over...... before i bought it from a reputable rs4 breaker.

She will be running big power

No problem, well it has to be a 0E1 if your going for big power so if you've got the serviced B5 box there I'd use that over a leaky CGR box.

Is the 01E from an 2000 S4 the same as the RS4 or is it not compatable, I was looking this morning and couldn't get my head around it. I need to sort the syncro on 2nd gear on mine and trying to decide if its worth attempting to fix it or find a replacement box

I'd have thought the 0E1 in a B5 S4 has different ratios to the RS4 but they should both be the same final drive.

I think the rs4 6th is taller I’ve got one built ready to go in the s2 limo once I’ve removed old 5 speed box

rs4 has shorter 3rd and 4th gears compared to s4 b5. if you will swap it out i would be intrested in your leaking gearbox.

The RS4 B5 gearboxes have fittings for an external oil cooler as well wich the older B4 gearboxes don't have. You have to make up an oil cooler with hoses or just short it out with a hose.

Sure they are different ratio. I have one in my S6. Had to change to 3.89 rear diff.
