Had various paddle clutches so definitely not a stranger to kangarooing, was it a 3 piece kit you purchased? Thanks.Originally posted by rynaqui View PostI had upgraded to (I believe a 3-puck)a Sachs sinter plated clutch around 9 years ago or so along with a billet flywheel, still going strong, you get used to the drivability and they are bombproof at RS2 power level.

I found the Sachs SRE kit good for RS2+ level with seriously aggressive software written for a car with rods, so 2Bar of boost from 2.2K RPM.
I think the advertised limit of the SRE kit is 550NM but I suspect it'll hold up to 600NM at a push. The one I ran in my car was fitted for 40K miles of serious abuse but still look pretty much new when I took it apart.

I am pretty sure it was a 3 piece kit but it was a long time ago now. I previously went through one original clutch and one Sachs organic clutch (one on the original DMF, the other on a billet SMF). They just don't stand up to abuse especially in the Maltese hot weather. The sintered one has been faultless since installation.Originally posted by audiwhore View Post

As for the drivability, it isn't that bad at all honestly, you get used to it to the point of it being an afterthought. At RS2 spec and mapped, these cars have bundles of torque, you really get the best out of them with this setup.1996 S2 ABY Silver

As far as I am aware the car is completely stock, only plan subtle modifications in the future for this 1 and possibly just a homefry chip.Originally posted by K Simmonds View PostI found the Sachs SRE kit good for RS2+ level with seriously aggressive software written for a car with rods, so 2Bar of boost from 2.2K RPM.

The issue is trying to locate a kit though. As far as we know the car has never had a replacement, previous owner owned it 20+ years and it never had a replacement in that time, 122k miles. When we went to collect the car the slave cylinder had failed, I replaced this and replaced the perished rubber clutch line. I have a nice pedal feel, can feel the springs on the pressure plate but I don't think the friction plate is dis-engaging from the flywheel. Tried to break it free on axle stands but it isn't having any of it.Originally posted by K Simmonds View PostA stock clutch in good condition Is fine in that case, they're surprisingly tough.

It sounds like you're going to need a new clutch at that millage and age it's probably ready to fail, or has failed.... There's a spring on the circumference pressure plate which snap and prevents the finger springs from releasing the friction disc. That could well be the problem you're currently having.
New Sachs/LUK clutch kits are available if you shop around and there's also the option of getting the old clutch refurbished which isn't as expensive as one would think, much the same cost as new clutch kit should be. I priced up a custom clutch refurb for my RS2 to hold 600NM and it was a little over £200, a stock S2 one should be more like £150.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.
