When Selecting 1st - Car Goes Into Reverse

I’ve read about this issue on the forum and I seem to have the same issue. So far the gear leaver has been stripped to give access to the ball housing. When I hold this up to the light I can see some delamination which is what is likely to be causing the excessive play.

The part number is 8A0711334 but can’t seem to find one available.

    1. Has anyone got one they are willing to sell?

    2. I’ve seen the picture with the two 1.5” screws in the ball housing casing. Is this just on one side and other than going through the casing, what do they screw in to?

Do you have the bracket on the shifter so you have to press down to engage reverse. Many years ago when I fitted a short shifter I had to fabricate the bracket to go on the short shifter for the reverse lockout to avoid this issue

        Does this look correct?

There is a small piece of plastic broken off the side of the bottom piece. What did the missing piece do?

The bottom of the housing looks correct, but I’m not sure about the 2nd photo about the small bit of plastic missing, it may be that you need to turn the housing through 180 degrees if the lockout is on the wrong side or adjusting the angle of it so that the lever engages the lockout when going into 1st

The issue is now resolved. The issue was caused by a piece of plastic broken off the gearshift which allowed it to pass underneath the mechanical gate and straight into reverse.

Glad you got to the bottom of it. Was it easy to source another shifter lever?
