Trans Differences?
Do the type016 and the 01E transmissions have the same differentals?Originally posted by AnLeDING!DING!DING! yes.. also lower bearing is different.. These are only differenses between v8torsenrear and 016frontdifferential
same bearing difference is in s2 rear and v8rear.
Also, according to Charlie's transmission site, the differental from a Porsche 968 uses a 2wd version of the Audi 01E trans. These gearboxes came with either a limited slip or a torsen diff as an option.

well thats means that the torsen will fit in with no problem. just switch out the ring gear and replace the bearings and its all good. lsd here we come. lol no im buying an 016 quattro w/o torsen and replace my coupe tranny with it. then take the torsen out of my old on and put it in the diff.
loads of fun on the way

Ok,Originally posted by AnLeDING!DING!DING! yes.. also lower bearing is different.. These are only differenses between v8torsenrear and 016frontdifferential

For the S2/States Coupe rear diff vs. the V8 rear diff:
Is the difference between the two bearings the inside diameter or the outside diamemeter of the bearing?
Is the bearing the only difference?
Then the assumption would be, if the inner diameter is the same, pull the torson diff from the V8, change the bearing and insert into the rear Coupe diff. Seem right?

I do not believe these etka drawings to full 100%, but best of what I have seen and read, to implement v8-reartorsen to small rear (s2, typ89, typ85)Originally posted by 90quattrocoupeOk,

the one bearing is the only difference, if its same as 016, the v8 bearing is taller and wider, so the s2 bearing is not interchangeable, and "bearing bay???" is needed to machine, even to add material if the orginal is too deep.
Hope you understand my poor english, but when I have time I disassemble one of my small rears and take picture and then we see what is the difference, there could be small chance that 016 front diff is interchangeable with s2 rear, so then quaiffes 016 front atb could bolt-on to rear and no machining is nessesary.
/edit few letters here and there

The best will be limited sleep 1.5 way (2 way for gravel and snow) on the back torsen in the front and in the midle one from an RS4 going 80/20 %.RS2 chip by mihnea,PKM short IM, forge dump valve, 3" custom stainless exhaust, 18"X8" Porsche 996 rims, conti contact 245/35 Front 225/40 Rear, QR sport top mount, Powerflex bushes, aloy sub frame bushes, neuspeed 19mm RARB,Hard tranny mount, V8 torsen on RS2Comment

No progress from my point.. But I have been thinking lot of this, and I was wondering isnt it brittish company quaiffe? Could some one walk in to the store and ask drawings or just see the 016 front diff they got, measure it, to see if it could be allmost straight fit to small audi rear diff..Comment

Quaife is a UK co. While you are in there don't forget to ask about the ABY 01E trannys too. I would stop by, but it is just a little out of the way for me. I email the USA outlet, and they said they had one for the 01E, but didn't know what car it was for.Originally posted by AnLeNo progress from my point.. My question is what do you want the diffs to do! LSD Front-Rear? what?Originally posted by AnLeYou dont have enough power, or you have not driven your car fast enough on tight corners..

MTM put on their S2 RSR with 418 PS wider front wheels to minimize the understeer!
And another thing: These cars are not the best for tight corners because they are very heavy at all, and thery heavy to in the front because of the big motor hanging in front of the wheels! Paying some thousands for diffs that who knows how much they can take is another issue too!
Maybe a good way is to use onother model used parts so that it comes cheaper!

I try to explain
If you use Lsd on the back you will have more grip theire as the inner wheel will not spin so the torsen will send all the torque in the back so the car will behave like a rear wheel drive specialy comming out of the curve.
If you put a lsd in the front you car will more understeer.
But theire is lsd and lsd.
The torsen , quaif, suretrac one on lock when on power.
The regular one (disque) lock on power but also when you lift of the power
you have 1 way, 1,5 way, 2 way the more the way number is high the more they lock when you lift of throtle.
So the best set up is like the EVO Torsen in the font (Quaif for us) and 1.5 way lsd in the back.2 way back only for use on gravel or snow
Like this when you lift of entry the curve the back 1,5 way will lock and make a litle like if you pull the and brake geting the car in an oversteer position helping you to entry the curve then comming out of the curve the front and rear will lock when you press the throtle making the front tight the curve and the back get a litle of drift (oversteer).
If you want to try this set up find a friend with a EVO V you will be stuck
I found a company in france who can do rear limited sleap 1.5 way custom for the S2/RS2 but they need a minimum of order's to pay for the tooling and devellopement.
For the front I think the Quaif is a direct swap as they fit the S4 2.7T who share the same 01E transRS2 chip by mihnea,PKM short IM, forge dump valve, 3" custom stainless exhaust, 18"X8" Porsche 996 rims, conti contact 245/35 Front 225/40 Rear, QR sport top mount, Powerflex bushes, aloy sub frame bushes, neuspeed 19mm RARB,Hard tranny mount, V8 torsen on RS2Comment

SORRY PRESS ENTER BEFORE RE READING SO THIS ONE IS THE GOOD POST

Like this when you lift of trothle at entry the curve the back 1,5 way will lock and make a litle like if you pull the hand brake geting the car in an oversteer position helping you to entry the curve then comming out of the curve the front and rear will lock when you press the throtle making the front tight the curve and the back get a litle of drift (oversteer). Also help you to get all the torque of the car to the tarmac as none of the 4 wheel will spin so you come out of the curve like a rocket.
If you want to try this set up find a friend with a EVO V you will be stuck.
Specialy if wet tarmac
