ABY 1st->2nd Notch

Ok, realised on Sunday (at Pod) for the first time that theres a large notch on the left hand side of the gear stick as you push the gear from 1st to 2nd.

I was trying to push it along the left hand side of its action and I couldn't get it in very easily. I had to come slightly to the right and back around. One of the S4 forum guys said that it could be the push down reverse mechanism thats getting in the way?

The folowing picture shows what I mean (from feeling anyway!)....

The left hand pic is what I want to do (the middle semi circle being the 'notch') and the top circle 1st and bottom 2nd. The right hand pic is what I HAVE to do to get round it!




Does the short shifter kit get rid of this notch even though reverse is still in the same position?

There is a plate that holds the pivot ball in place. This can be adjusted to remove the symptom you are describing, I had to do this on mine when I first got the car as I kept hitting reverse instead of 1st!

I havn't been getting that problem, its just getting it into 2nd from 1st very quickly isn't as slick an operation as I had hoped! Felt like a right prick on my 1st 1/4mile run when i litterally spent 2s fumbling around with my g'box! Thought I'd broken something! LOL

my CQ is similar, bit notchy from 1st-2nd. most of the time. does not like a rushed gear change.
would be great if there is an easy fix!

Funnily enough this came up in conversation at mine today think someone said you loosen a couple of nuts off or something and the change is a lot straighter and swifter oh and fit a short shift kit...was it you Brian ?
