    3B S2 VS. 6E Tranny

    Hi!

I`ve got a 01A S2 box thats gone to hell, im going to be building a blueprinted bottom end with some serious fun parts to go along in the near future, so im not opting for a used 5-speed as they are on the weak side even for standard torque. I`ve found a lowmileage 6E box+rear diff (-83 qauttro) at great price... and now in wondering if any of you guys have som insight to what must be done to fit it.. im prepared for some customizing but my main concern is driveshaft and prop compatibility to the S2...

you need 2 x right propshafts, gear linkage, and some tell about the front end travers doesn't fit( slightly modds needed.)

      ok,
a 6-speed conversion would need much of the same mods though no difference in driveshafts and rear diff. At the price im getting this box i could be 3 boxes at the same price as an EDU/DSY etc box...

guess i`ll just have to try and mod as i go along

find an old quattro prop shaft, and get used with reversed gear shift like I do, or you can try to fabricate the gear lever from the gearbox to fit downwards. I will try that next week because i drive also an normal car with normal gear shifts and i mess them up.
        Good luck!

The 6E is a 016 gearbox. You will need type 85 016 mounts (should come with the box), a type 85 Q prop shaft. Linkage is a bit tricky. Either you convert to a type 85 linkage (massive work) or you convert to a type 44 linkage - either way you'll see quite a fair bit of fabbing before it's all done. So, finding a 6-speed is a much easier way...

However, there are quite a few guys who has done this, try searching www.motorgeek.com or ww.audiworld.com about this and you should see how it's done.
