    RS2 6 spd vs S2 6 spd, differences?

We never got any 6 spd UrS cars in North America. Consequently, we either have to use a B5 S4 6 spd or import an S2 or RS2 6 spd tranny. Based on the info that we have (see link below), I am confused as to whether there is a difference between the RS2 and S2 6 spds.

Can someone enlighten me? I have a line on an S2 6 spd that is already in Canada.

We know the RS2 is the "best" but is the S2 the same?

I think that the general opinion was that the last of the S2's had the same spec box as the RS2.
Best thing to do id to assist the seller in locating the gearbox code. That should tell you more.

Good plan. What would be a good PN (or bad PN?)?

Rs2 have stronger gears and "bottom end" than the earlier S2. But the 94 model RS2 transmission is NOT reinforced with the wider first gear. You must have a 95 or 75xxx serial number on those transmissions to be sure that it's an improved tranny. However. never heard of anyone breaking the first gear... I'm using a "weak" CBL transmission, I'm trying to kill it but it simply won't die on me.

The "best" transmission if you go price wise, is the CBL that comes of the later S6 models, 95 and forward. Or EDU transmissions from 2.7 Biturbo engines. But the EDU / DSY trannies are often really expensice. The CBL trannies are often better for the wallet.

The CRB , or RS2, transmission, is in my eyes, overpriced, and overestimated. The problem with these trannies, are the synchronisation, and that is as "bad" on all trannies, no matter how wide the 1's gear is. The good thing with EDU / DSY trannies is that it is oil-cooled, cool hydraulic fluid = longer life on the metal parts that the oil lubricates.

          Hope you understand
