    Gearbox codes

Can anyone tell me where gearbox with the following code might come out of, if it's a strong box and what ratios it might have:

    WW0012409131E

    Many thanks.

I hate to say it Chris but 012 409 131E is just the part number for the diff cover part of the gearbox, it is definitely not a gearbox code

You need to be looking for a flat part of the casing that will have something like 3 letters on it

between the 2 upper bolt on the clutchhousing somewere like this: QZL 123456
the figs are stamped in gearcode are in this:QZL
then some one can get the clue what tranny it is: 01e from 91-95 for the audi v8 fx....
this code arent real, only a example....

@Jogi - Are you sure the gearbox code is WW ?

There is a WU and a WV listed for the Audi 100/200 as a 5speed manual circa 1979/1980. Neither appear to be a quattro box.

Maybe that WW is just a blank - can you see another code stamped on the box ?

              Chris,
For (insert name of religious figure you worship) sake! Do not install higher gearing. You will make your lack of tractability even worse than it now.
I could understand it on the earlier set up, but not this one. The power is made too high up the rev range. You would be better off addressing that first.

                Robin,
The 016 I have at present, has gearing that is too short.
Without a doubt, where the power is now being made is an issue and most definitely needs addressing (and it will be shortly). However, the g/b has been an issue all along.
Am keeping my eyes peeled and if something comes along at the right price, I can buy it and install it at a later date.
                Cheers

there are some discuss with the gearin in the tranny: the old audi audi 80 and vw passat with 1,8 liter (4 syl) does have the 4,56-1 tranny/ diff( fit in the chassi for audi 80/90/s2..... )then you have the tranny for 5 syl( same tranny, but different boltpattern to the engine) they have 4,111-1..... in 016 houssing. BUT there are some 3,889 one too( only 5 % of the car have this.....!!) the mostly of the URQ does have 3,889; with/ without thorsen(before 87 not thorsen) after 88 with thorsen
the audi 200 does have 4,111-1, but they also may have 3,889( not many of theese)
not v8 ones. and some of the newer diesel verson may have the 3,889.....
i will use the 3,889 in my 1300kg vw quantum, i will have the torque to have the car around.............!!!!!!
