Problems!! 5-stud hubs onto 10v CQ

I encountered a problem last night when I was finishing fitting the first S2 front hub on the 1990 2.3 NG 10v. The CV’s don’t fit, not even a little bit!! The splines are a completely different size. My 10v spline in the s2 hub, is like waving a stick in a cave.

What I need to know:

Are the actual driveshaft shafts the same, because if so then surely I can just whack a 7a/3b outer CV on and im sorted.

Or do I have to swap the complete driveshaft from a 20v/s2

Or am I screwed???

I happen to know that the inner CV joint is the same for NG, 7a & 3b.

Any help please?

You'll need the shafts and outer CV joints from either a 3B or ABY of a fwd
7A/AAH/ABC coupe for this to work. There are other donor cars too.

You say i can use fwd 7a front shafts..... why are the 4wd 7a shafts different from the s2? the Outer CVs for the 7a 4wd and the s2 are the same.

Also am i right in saying that ABY and 3b front drive shafts are different?

Hi, 7A CQ shafts/CV are different part numbers, I don't know what the physical difference is though. 3B/ABY items are one and the same.

Ok well i have one further question then. Do the NG CQ and the 7a CQ have the same part numbers for the shafts?

Because i know that the 7a CV's fit in the s2 hubs, becuase azman who i bought the hubs off said that the hubs bolted straight onto his 7a.

If the part numbers are the same, then all i need to do to fit the hubs is buy 7a outer CV's??

Part numbers for the NG CQ and 7A CQ items are not the same. Parts of the outer CV joint are different and I'm reasonably sure that the shafts will be different too I'm afraid.

I can see your reasoning, I think you need the drive shafts but I can't confirm this for you.

I am not sure about the front shaft, so I cannot comment.

For the rear, you need the shaft and outer CV from a 7a, 3b or ABY. Your inner CV should fit on the inner portion.

My rears fitted fine theyre all sorted, just the front outers that are the problem.
