    backlash

    lads

i replaced the rear diff bush, the 2 bushs on the side of the diff and the 4 subframe bushes as i was getting very bad clonking on the backend.

but i still have a very small bit or its probably better described as backlash

is there soemthing else to check?

can the diff be tightened on these i.e. disconnect the prop and tighten the nut inside the diff for the corwon and pinion?

or has anyone else another suggestion??

    many thanks

Maybe its just worn out - theres a fairly complex setup for checking the 'preload' on the rear diff. I can dig it out for you from OFRM if you like... SOme special tools required though.

you have to remove or add some shims between outer rings of the bearings. You have to have around 0.12 0.25 mm play measured at outside of the crown wheel. If you dismantle the diff, check also the satellite gears inside for backlash.
      Hope that helps!

turns out that my problem is the centre bearing on the propshaft

Now i've been told its the same centre bearing propshaft as a bmw e30???

        Is that true?

ANother question - how does one install it?

does the prop split in two in the middle or does the whole prop have to be taken down? do i need to be carefull of anything when i change it??

        thanks
