  • Oh ****** - New Clutch Required :(

    Oh ******!

Nearing home tonight, and tried a nice 4500 rev change from 2nd to 3rd when nothing happened, just a lot of crunching.

    The clutch has failed catastrophically!

    Can anyone tell me:
A.) How much a replacement Audi Clutch is?
B.) Anywhere good in the Bracknell Reading S.E area that has done one and is reasonably priced and competent. (How many hours is it - Ouch!)
C.) Would you let your local garage who have already done an Audi 80 clutch for you perfectly, perform the change or is it really a specialist job?
D.) What should I realistically expect to pay - Be nice!
D.) Whether to bear anything else in mind.

(No I don't fancy doing it myself, especially in this weather!!!)

I have had the car exactly a month and this was the only major component that I was not sure when it was last changed when I bought it.

    Thanks,

    Steve.

Sorry to hear your of your pain!

I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who could do it - but seeing as you're not far from dialnx or Tom's - why not just take it somewhere you can trust implicitly?

IMHO, doing a clutch on an S2 is not a specialist job. It just needs to be done by someone you can trust to work on work car. Its just a lot of unbolting and bolting back together. Some bits are quite fiddly, but not that hard. I know of a few garages near me who would refuse to take the job on due to its complexity, but when it comes to it, i would rather do an S2 than a Mondeo or Xantia TD!! :wacked:

            Hi Steve
If you want to use someone in the Bracknell-ish area, try "Surrey Lodge" - they're based in Wraysbury, which is just off the M25 in between the M3 and M4 junctions.
They're an independent garage who specialise in VAG/Audi. The owner has an S2 and most of the garaged services done to my car have been done there, they do a good job.
They do a collection and drop off service too which is handy, if you don't live too far away from them.

Ask for either Richard or Chris.

I have no affiliation to them, but they've sorted me out on quite a few occassions.

Help! Anyone got a new Clutch Master Cylinder spare??? I have been quoted 10 days for a factory replacement. Looks like they are going to have to do the Master Cylinder AND clutch. The master cylinder arm has bent and they recommend replacement and then the clutch needs replacing...

Going to go and count my last remaining pennies now.....

My master cylinder rod snapped not once but twice before I changed the clutch. The 2nd time was with a GSF cylinder so I would stick to a genuine Audi part if I was you.

Are these Genuine Audi? I have been quoted £150 for the Audi one.

Thanks for all the replies. Feeling a bit low at the moment. Another two weeks without my car. I have had it for six weeks and only driven it for four!!! (At least the festa I am driving does 42mpg. I could keep useing that all year and save up with the difference in petrol money.... )

                              Cheers,
