    gearbox issues

Right, i was out in my s2 and as i came over a roundabout, after giving it a bit of welly, i noticed smoke coming from the back of my car. I pulled over to have a look, and i realised it was leaking from the gearbox(and the smell was pretty bad).

I managed to drive home slow, with a tightning gear change. Now, i've looked under the car, and cannot find were it is leaking from. The top plug is still on and i cant see were the drain plug is?

Is their anywhere else it could leak from?

Any help would be appreciated, including some pics.

I satrted the car today and couldn't find the leak. Do you fill the gearbox from the drivers side? I was told to fill the gearbox up, and drive it to find the leak.

Is their an easy way to find out if it is leaking from the bell housing? other than jacking the car up and having a look?

if you can squeeze underneath wipe any oil off and give it a good clean, give it a short run and see where it is running from is my best advice.

Filling the gearbox is a little awkward and will require removing undertray and jacking car up. you will need a large allen bolt to undo the filler cap too.

So tom's (aka audiman) gearbox has finally let go again. Good luck with finding the problem and hope to hear more of the car soon.

Well, i've just bought 2 more gearboxes, just incase. 1 6 speed and 1 5 speed. But i would like to fix the original one first.

I think i lost about a litre of oil whilst driving back. I have the right star key for the bolt for filling. I think i should top it up first, before i drive it to find the leak.

I have already let it run for 15mins, cleaned the underneath, and i couldnt find where it was leaking from.

              Thanks for the advice

Maybe the tranny has run out of oil to leak. Probably a blown seal/gasket
