    Rear diff questions

I've road tested my CQ restoration project car and noticed the rear diff is grumbling a bit, i've inspected it and looks like the rear driveshaft oil seals need replacing, the diff is probably low on oil and perhaps rather worn and loose...

So i will probably try to find a replacement rear diff to replace it, then not have to worry if the existing one is shagged.

Can anyone tell me if the CQ 20v rear diff is the same as the S2 / 80 / 90 URS4 quattros etc? How much can i expect to pay for a reasonable one?

I'll probably try and get a rear subframe and suspension / control arms & ARB etc to refurb and powdercoat and swap over at the same time

Someone'l probably correct me on this but I've heard that the v8 rear diff is a good (and relatively cheap) ugrade if you have a knackered rear diff.

Same as the S2 coupe ones but you have to change the flanges over as the cv joints are bigger,BTDT at gregs dads garage meet on martinjs's old coupe.Although you would be better getting one off a 7a as it shouldnt have had as much abuse.

URs4 and s2 avants are no good for yours.V8 diffs are quite rare and most of the ones ive seen have been around the £250 mark although i think someone on here got one for £50 once. And then you would have to strip down both diffs and transfer the innards of the V8 into your old casing.

yeah, V8 rear diff would be a good option, but not really got the budget for that at present

What i'd like to do is find a decent diff i can swap straight over, and then maybe try and find a V8 rear diff at soem point, put it in the old casing and away i go....

Trouble with CQ rear diffs is they seem to be pretty rare, and given the weight, not really something your can send very easily
It would be nice to be able to prepare a replacement diff and refurbed rear undercarriage arrangement then just bolt the lot back up under the car

Audibits sometimes has them on ebay with the whole rear suspension attached, seem to sell quite cheaply.

have a word with david (s2driveruk) as we removed the one from his s2 which was fine and put the 20v flanges on it.

audi 80/90/ s2 will fit if they have 4,111 ratio... AEC... some of the audi 80 does have 4,560 AEU
and some of the CQ does have 3,889!!!
the audi v8 diff WONT fit the car: same as the audi 100/ 200/v8/s4...
