    Longer propshaft OK?

Really struggling to find a replacement prop for my Type-85 CQ. The centre bearing dead and can't find one with a working bearing. Also, taking the old bearing off mine was too difficult to do without taking off the UJ, by which time we had bearings everywhere which would make it too difficult to rebuild. So fixing my old prop looks slightly out of the question now!

I have however found some props which are about an inch longer than mine, with working centre bearings. Someone on the classic-audi forum said that the CV joints will move in & out more than an inch and should be able to accommodate the extra inch… is this OK? Its £50 for a new prop (got em down from £75 last time I went down there), and I’m sure they won’t let me try before I buy! So its got to fit if I buy it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Phil

if i were you get the one from 034, should take only a few days in the post then take the prop and the new bit to an engineering shop and get them to do it.Its crazy spending money on a propshaft that isnt the right one and will still have an unknown condition bearing.Do it right 1st time.

Ok, I've ordered that one from 034.

Can anyone suggest where I can buy (prefereably online) a new UJ for the propshaft? Might as well do it properly!
