Clutch Friction Plate: ABY/ADU vs 3B - Help!

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know the difference in thickness between an ABY/ADU vs 3B Clutch Friction Plate? Is there a size difference between the spline centre's on these clutch plates? I know that the Pressure Plates are different given dual mass vs single mass.

Is the input shaft splines the 016 (3B) gearbox the same dimension (number of teeth) as the spline on an 01E box (ABY/ADU)?

    Thanks guys!

I have a 3B clutch on an ABY 6 speed with no probs as does Newsh and a few others on here. No idea on thickness but best get the pressure and friction plate for the correct flywheel if I was you. My 3B clutch cost about £150 from VAG Parts so not too expensive for OEM kit really. Try and find a Sachs one though, they're supposed to be better than the Luk one that I have

      Thanks Andy,

I have an RS2 (ADU) with a custom ally flywheel modeled around a lightened 3B/RR Flywheel, using an 01E gearbox. I have purchased a Sachs performance clutch friction plate for an ABY/ADU and a Sachs Performance Pressure plate for a 3B.

I have assembled the gearbox without the spacer, but I am having problems with the clutch not worling correctly. When I depress the clutch pedal, it seems as if the clutch isn't disengaging far enough to select gears properly. It seems as if the clutch friction plate is either too thick or the clutch slave rod isn't moving far enough to disengage properly (the latter seems less likely).

I have changed the clutch master and slave cylinder for brand new items and have bled them numerous times, inculding pressure bleeding both ways.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Maybe worth checking the friction plates with the supplier or getting the correct one for the 3B pressure plate.

Might be the mechanism inside the bellhousing?

Sorry,at a bit of a loss other than getting the correct friction plate in there as the clutches/flywheels certainly look rather different.
