  • Gearbox sound

My gearbox sounds like "Prrrrrrr". This sound is only there when engine braking from 30km - 10km on the second gear. What could it be?
Gears are not sticking in fact they feel like in a new car, very thight and precise. The previous owner had gearbox overhauld, new clutch, new slave cylinder or at least it says so in the papers and all receipts confirms this.

    Weird...me too!

    Hi

I have a 95 RHD RS2 (stock) and I also experience a strange noise in second when changing gear or decelerating at speeds of around 30km/h - almost like a scraping sound. It appears to be coming from the left side of the car.

    ??????

Have you checked the gearbox oil for any metal particles; would tell you if something is rubbing inside?

Gearbox oil is changed and there were no particles in the oil and it made no difference to the sound.

are you sure is not something touching the chasis when use engine braking?
Maibe is only an bad engine or tranny mount wich permits the assambly to move too much.
          Just an ideea!

maibe is in 2 because higher engine brake that in the higher gears...
Worth check also in first gear engine brake from higher rpm....
Maibe is not necessary to dismantle the gearbox for an small rubber thing..

I replaced a broken prop bearing last year but it didn't make any difference. I've to try engine braking with the first gear also.
