Can a quattro box made to give rwd?

And if so, how? It's not to go in an audi, but i want the easiest way to drive the rear wheels of something by using an audi 2144cc turbo engine.

Any other suggestions also more than welcome!

    Thanks

    Matt

You could do it with a type 85 quattro box with lockable front/rear diff's but whats the point, the cars made for quattro and it would be a waste. I'm not sure how long the box would last.

Could try check out either a ford or vauxhall box or just use a saab engine with vauxhall box on it, be easier and cheaper with more power at the end. (sounds like you've a 10v engine)

This has been done to a 20v before with awesome results. It involves taking the GB apart to weld certain components (like the centre diff) and i think removing the front diff?

I think the best thing to do would be to make an adapter kit for the bellhousing and source an ordianary RWD box.

OR you could go for a mid-engined approach and just use an Audi FWD box on the rear wheels (similair to a GT40 kit)

Interesting thinking, though I haven't clue what could feasibly be made to mate up to my engine...

I would go fo the turbo saab / vauxhall box route but i NEED the 5 cylinder soundtrack! Maybe volvo boxes/axles off a 740/760? Or would it just be the diesel box that would mate up (as it is an audi diesel)?

Is the adaptor so I can join the volvo propshaft to the bmw gearbox? Do the diesel volvos you mentioned have the gearbox have the box at the rear axle too? Sorry if they're daft questions, only it sounds like i'd end up with two gearboxes by doing what you said...

Cheers again bud - great knowledge!

you have to weld a custom propshaft to have it in the car; the front part from bmw, and the rear from audi... no prob with that.
theese volvos (240/740) does NOT have the tranny at the rear end.. only volvo 340/360 does have the tranny by the rear end.....

If you dismantle the Quattro gearbox you can remove the front differential and plate up the front shaft flange holes. The centre diff doesnt need welding on early transmissions, simply push the diff lock rod forward and make a bracket to retain it there. I've looked into this a fair bit and its perfectly feaseable and also can then be returned to a Quattro box if need be.

That certainly seems like the simplest thing to do. I'm sure there is a video on yooootooobe somewhere of the guy in the US who did this to his 20v Coupe.
