Make very sure you note the location of cup and spacer inside CV boot.
I trust you know the trick for easy removal of joint from driveshaft. It does NOT require a hammer of any kind or messing about with circlip pliers !

Torque setting is on S2 Central

I confess I paid a garage to do this for me - they charged me a ton all in (or there abouts) for parts and fitting. I know, I know, but...

Basically it involves taking the hub bolt out, pulling the CV out of the Hub carrier/hub and then re-inserting the bolt into the CV, tighten the bolt and the CV pops off the drive shaft. Obviously you need to undo the bottom pinch old, steering rack etc.

I found this out at the Garage meet! It would e a complete wally who used a copper mallet to 'knock' the cv off the shaft Mind you I was cheating and didn't undo the hub nut etc. Took 40 minutes to do.

Well I think that's the trick Paul was talking about....

That's the trick alright. I only undid my pinch bolt and the centre bolt to change mine...no other fasteners. Less than an hour last time. Took me ages first time around because I didn't know the pop-off trick. Use gloves too because that CV grease is horrible stuff..takes ages to come out of your skin.

Yep - thats the CV boot trick alright. Just one less special Audi tool needed !

Less than hour is about right.

Just a another quick question on this as I have to do one next week, relating to the pinch bolt; years ago I remember having a problem getting the pinch bolt out without it suffering a wee bit of damage, is it worth replacing it with a new one when I'm doing this or is there a failsafe way of removing it unharmed ??

Swap it! For the sake of a couple of quid from Audi for a new one.
