    quick Q regarding rs2 trans

A friend of mine has a 3b block, flywheel, clutch and PP. He also has a Canadian s2 01e tranny. Which throw out bearing does he need? 01e from the 6speed, or from a 016 3b 5 speed?

    thanks in advance

Just to clarify, there are NO Canadian S2s. We got exactly ZERO S2s of any flavour. However, we did get 20v 7A coupe quattros.

oh my mistake I guess I meant to say a canadian 01e 6 speed. You did get some of those correct? Probably in an Urs4/s6?

I dont think region matters, but the tranny is an 01e.

Well, the 01E part is correct, however the UrS4/S6s did not get six-speed in North America. If it really is a 6 speed, and it came from Canada, I would put my money on a 2.7tt 01E EDU or DSY (from an A6 or neu S4).

Thanks for that info, i wouldnt be surprised either. Plus my friend who I am helping with this tranny barely did any homework and research regarding what he needs to mount this tranny up to his 3b block.

He is using a 3b pilot bearing and a 3b throw out bearing. And when we mount the tranny up, we get it almost connected to the block except for 1/4 of an inch of a gap left. Then when we try to rotate the motor via crank, it doesnt budge.

          Anybody know anythign there?

well, I used 3B flywheel and clutch in my UrS4. "All" 20vt blocks should be the same, difference is the locating "studs" pressed into block. AAN and 3B have short lugs, ABY&ADU have longer, because Audi decided to invent dual-mass flywheel again for them.

If throwout bearing is the bearing in plastic housing going to gearbox axle, I think it's same part on all 01e boxes. Also all 01e gearbox housings are basically the same (only some minor differences between models)

Also I needed to give my engine some slight persuasion with transmission bolts for it to mate perfectly with transmission. Be sure you are shifted to neutral when lining up with the box, otherwise you might be able to lock things down. My engine rotates as easily as it did in the engine stand.

I can't speak for the 3B but I can tell you that the AAN also has a dual mass flywheel. And on a related note, if you use non-dual mass flywheel, then the clutch pressure plate and disc have to be compatible with the flywheel. For example, the AAN clutch disc has ZERO springs in it because the dual mass flywheel has springs in it to take up the shock. Non-dual mass flywheels = need for springs in the clutch disc.

Yeah after doing some fit checks, everything mounts just fine with just the single mass flywheel. Then when we tried to add the clutch, the pressure plate clears the tranny shaft, except the clutch disc does not. The inner hole with the splines is too small of a diameter to mount to the tranny. First we just mounted everthing to the motor and then tried to mount the tranny. So this means that we have the wrong clutch disc.

And we are using a single mass flywheel...and the clutch we have does have springs in it.....guess we gotta source a new clutch disc now which will fit in an 01e.

ok scratch my previous post, the clutch disc does fit. But while we were trying to mount the tranny to the motor the first time, it banged up the teeth on the inner hole of the clutch disc. So we filed those imperfections away and now we are at it again.

So if anybody sees anything wrong with this picture please let me know. 3b pilot bearing, 3b throwout bearing, 3b PP and clutch, single mass FW, and 01e trans. is there any problems there?
