hi again,
I'm not using an S2 linkage at the mo, I'm using the A6 version, I do plan to go with the S2 one when I can get one, the A6 one does require some 'adapting' (shortening etc) but works pretty good, as for clutch and flywheel I used the standard 1.9 TDI flywheel with an uprated clutch, again for the 1.9TDI, the starter possition is the same between the boxes so I figured they'd work ok along with the 80 starter.....

ok thats good to hear.
But it only works with S2 6-speed gear linkage right? that a pitty because of the rareness and prices of it...
what flywheel and clutch did you use?Leave a comment:

hi,
I'd be very surprised if they didn't match up, I've read of a Lotus espirt with an Audi V8 using a four pot TDI 6 speed gearbox, infact when I stripped the doner A6 and got to the box I thought I'd cocked up as it look completely different, but using a spare block I found at least four bolt holes lined up, so grabbing the bull by the horns I set about stripping the engine out of my 80, on fitting the 6'er I found that every single bolt for the 5'er bell housing went back into the 6'er! perfect match
...
as for subframe I only chose to swap it due to the TDI subframe only having one bracket for the mount, S2 having two..

woohoo finally someone with a BTDT, subframe won´t be necessary cause it´s a V6 so it should have the right subframe already.
But the gearbox is hard to find I guess, and your car is a 4 cylinder right? If yes the bolt pattern differs from the V6 AFAIKLeave a comment:

hi, I've just finished converting my 80 avant tdi to 6 speed, parts needed, 6 speed box code ARX,found in the earlier A6 2.5tdi five cylinder, S2 front sub frame, custom gearbox mounts/brackets (although I'm trying to locate some S2 ones) the ARX linkages (although again I'm looking for S2 linkages) everything slotted together easy with no real problems, driving it now is very different than before, seems more urgent through the gears (the engine has been tweeked a little
)..

So you need to change to a six speed so that you can reduce revs at 260km/h? What's the point?Leave a comment:

thanks for the input, are you sure about the propshafts, I guess it's the same as driveshafts?
I hoped someone had done this before, I like to know what I can expect before starting with something

r5 and v6 trannys DOES fit in the car; but things may be different. the gearlink are deff different. the flywheel and clutch, and the propshafts... you may need 2 right hands propshafts.......Leave a comment:

SOrry, I realised that when I read it was currently a V6 motor. Best option is surely a 2wd diesel box?Leave a comment:

2wd trannys DOES have another ratios, then the quattro boxes. 3,700-1 arent ususalLeave a comment:

Why do you wnat a 6 speed in there? The 3B and ABY top gear ratios are almost the same. The only way to get longer ratios is diesel 'box or a B5 S4 box.Leave a comment:

I don't know the gearbox code, we haven't bought an 6 speed yet. The current gearbox is the standard v6 2.6 12v gearbox, the engine is from an A4. HTHLeave a comment:

gearcode will tell more. stands with the upper bolts in the bellhousing....!!!
