  • Removing Pinion shaft from diff

Does anyone have any info on removing the pinion from the diff?

I've got a scan of the workshop manual for the diff itself, but it doesn't cover removing and refitting the pinon assembly.
Theres a lock nut to remove the propshaft flange, but i wanted to know if the pinion and bearings is a press fit in the diff casing, or pulls out like the diff & crown wheel assemly

Has anyone got any info for me?

You don't need to do it to swap the diffs over, i want to strip mine out to make sure theres no residue in there from having the drain plug drilled out.
Someone posted this assembly diagram, but it doesn't cover removing the pinion

Remove the front nut from the prop flange and pressthe shaft in.
Take care at the adjustment washers inside... mont them back in the same location.
Here is a picture with the diff from spare parts catalogue!
        Hope this helps!

          Thanks mate
So the bearings are a press fit onto the pinion shaft, then the shaft just pulls out of the front of the diff casing?
OR do you need to drive the shaft into the casing out remove it out of the side of the casing?

Does anyone have any info in a Bentley or similar to confirm this?

          Cheers
