    carbon fibre driveshaft (propshaft)

Did any of You heard of carbon fibre driveshaft (propshaft) being made for Audi S2 ?

Lot of rotating mass and lot of weight could be saved.

I want to make one for my self and I'm looking for possible solution for my track car.

Did search on the forum but did not find anything.

I have found a company in UK that does some carbon driveshafts http://www.torqline.com/

I don't trust in them...! For high torque engines is not a good option

Believe it or not there was rumor on the 20v.org list that the US spec Audi 90 Q20v had a carbon prop. I've never seen any pics to back that up mind.

yes, I have seen that remark also but did not see any carbon shafts at all.

To have a true motorsport propshaft it has to be a single shaft with no center connector and bearing.

This is a true statement. My 20v Coupe 1991 has a carbon fibre driveshaft. Many others depending on VIN# and Year of production came with them also.

On Audiworld some of the guys have cut off their spline ends on their carbon fibre driveshafts and re-welded them to a hollow aluminum tube to make a one piece shaft with no center bearing.

This could be an option for you w/out spending too much for custom setup.

"Some reported the results being a little slower of the mark because of weight rotation loss but when in motion the acceleration was hugely improved and was worth the effort. "
                      Cheers mis amigos,
                      _Anton

i use to frequent a lotus 7 replica forum they had the general rule of thumb decrease a rotational mass and you multiply the difference by 3 to find how much less weight that is to accelerate, this was for wheels and brake istr, so before the diff multiply by 4 about to get 12!! they also use to say carbon was safer because it will blow up into dust before it snaps and cuts your leg off....
i have also herad about carbon props used on american spec 90 20v...

The stock prop is really not that heavy IMHO, probably 1/2 the weight of the prop off my old 200sx..
wonder why the Audi engineers would have specced a carbon prop for the yanks?
