Is it safe to get diff sandblasted?

Or will some of those menacing little bits of sand find their way in and eat all my gears?

    I wouldn't!
Just get some gear called "ALI clean" from frosts, does a superb job. Then paint it with "alu cast". It will look like new and stay looking like new!

when you say diff do you mean, the casing or the diff(the gears ete)

if the housing sure strip all down, as you would, sandblast and then wash out using oil sprayer and petrol/diesel mix and then wash that out with petrol, cant see how do any hard as long you cleaned out well after

as for the diff cant see why youd want or need to blast it,cause if there corrosion or anything sticking to it you need as your self is worth using

I wouldn't blast a diff, the pressures they use will force the shot into places you don't want it going. This is mine before

          and after

All I used was a wire brush, a tooth brush, plenty of degreaser ( Gunk or Jizer ) and then a coat of satin black and Halfords Aluminium paint, good as new if a little time consuming.

A mate of mine got his complete diff/live-axle blasted at a place in Deeside.
Though he did spend ages masking it up beforehand, and was able to strip it down afterwards to check no debris had got in there. It hadn't either!

Though much safer bet's are described here.

Who makes "alu cast"? Just googled and found the "ali clean" but couldn't find "alu cast".

I did. That's where I found the ali clean. No sign of alu cast there. If you can find it on there, maybe you would be kind enough to post the link.

                    Thanks

I couldn't find it either but have a shopping basket full of goodies from frost now cos of that link - Aliclean, POR15, a funky brake pipe tool and other bits and pieces that seem reasonable. Some impulse purchases as well to be fair !
