    So whats the verdict?

Took the engine out tonight ...I have the clutch off and this is what i am facing

    Flywheel

Pics of the clutch kit i got

Pressure plate looks like it has taken a beasting

    Front view (sachs clutch)

    Friction plate still ok thankfully

So what are your thoughts gentleman .. the flywheel is getting skimmed on Thursday night and if have time will lighten to ..think i will get away with the pressure plate?

Worth a shot and it looks in a hell of a lot better condition than my clutch when the gearbox was removed at the weekend

Might be worthwhile speaking to ross about this as I think he's got the same problem with his old clutch.

Dont worry about the bottom of friction plate as that is a bit of water that got spilled on to it ...

              Update

              A little changes on things

Spoke to a guy at Kesteral and I am going to get the original clutch re-manufactured to Kevlar, they are going to ground the flywheel for the friction plate and thats everything covered...all in it is £350 + vat so not bad considering what a new sachs or spec clutch will cost and i will have the comfort in knowing the job done right ..They built the clutch for the green golf in Practical Performance that was converted to a 20V ABY running 600bhp

You dont have to think to much about wear marks, but if the metal (clutch or flywheel) is blue in some places, then it´s gone or if the surface has wear marks on them(uneven places) otherwise it´s ok.
you can also feel on the springs if they are loose or week (spring tension) this will also tell if it´s worn out

I've taken a risk with mine in the name of science

The oil contamination wasn't as bad as I first thought once I cleaned up the friction plate, just a little on one edge and i had cleaned it up pretty quickly. Brake cleaner seemed to do the trick. Actually there was more concern with the pressure plate which had some nasty wear, the clutch had been clearly abused with small heatmarks corresponding to the friction plate material on the pressure plate (Not me ) but these were only on the surface as with a light resurfacing they were gone, so I decided to use it again.

Worst-case scenario: A change of clutch in the summer
