I can recommend Sachs Sport Clutch and Disk.

You need 3 things : disk , plate and bearing.

    There is 3 types :

Organic , Special Organic and Ceramic

    Starts from 550nm(organic) till 645nm(ceramic).

I have all the part numbers , but it will take a while to find them. If you are interested you can search it by yourself on sachs racing web site.

Everyday driving such a clutch is normal , so it doesn't have racing clutch effect.

And yes. You can start from the red-line.

Dunno how much original clutch can take but I guess 400nm ?
    Vadim.

New engine (mechanical PKM head) , Alcon 332mm brakes , Pauter rods , Mahle pistons, GT30R , kw v2 sucpension , new exhaust. 608HP. For SALE !

450Nm is the generally accepted maximum torque limit for an 01E gearbox (thats the 6 speed). So at 380lbft you are well over the theoretical limit.

Thing is that loads of people have run WAY more than the stated maximum on many Audi gearboxes and had problem free motoring for a long time.

Much of it depends on how you drive... If you are the sort to sidestep the clutch at 5000rpm in 1st gear then you can't expect a gearbox to live for long.

A better clutch couldn't hurt though. Checkout Sachs items - they list one for the 3B and a different one for the ABY. This topic came up before. I always thought the clutches are different fitting as the ABY has the 'orrible dual mass flywheel and maybe the 01E spline was different from 01A (5-speed). I think that Sachs motorsport spec clutches (550Nm and above) are only listed for 3B applications, but I'm sure that someone (Mihnea maybe) posted that it bolts straight onto ABY as well.

When this is confirmed I really MUST update S2 Central with the info cos I can't keep it all in my head anymore

aby and 3b clutches are different diameters.

I am running just a standard LUK clutch. It is fine unless you give it abuse like side stepping at 5000 rpm!! It then just spins the clutch up

But everyday use is fine, not heavy and grips well. Not sure what torque im running? Any guesses Paul? Questimate?

Well, with my old RS2 - engined Coupe q, I used to blip the revs to 7,200 RPM and release the clutch at GTi International. At this time, it still had the old 5 speed box (016), which is virtually indestructable. power output of this car was 426PS and torque was 413.7 lbs/ft. The later 01E boxes are not as tough, though.

@Paul: 2 RS2s chipped by myself are currently running 500+ Nm (2.0 Bar overboost for a few seconds) with 30.000+ kms and no signs of failure yet... of course that doesn't mean they'll be everlasting but it might mean that the "generally accepted" limit is a bit higher....

@Sienna: did your coupe quattro have the original 016 gearbox in it? did it hold okay at 560Nm????? at what RPM did the torque happen? anyway, that's good news for me as I wasn't planning at all to swap my gearbox, I have a brand new 016 in the garage and I don't want to think of something else for my car, the gears are great with a powerful engine! my current goal is 450HP and 500+Nm so I guess it should be quite fine, right?

              Cheers,

the 3B and ABY have the same diameter clutches, I'm convinced of that, 240mm for both!

Regarding your torque, I'd guesstimate about 450-500 Nm but it's hard to tell like that, plus I've never been in your car! But that should change soon, right?

                Cheers

                  Hm. Good to hear Mihnea.

I was a bit confused seeing audiman post about difference on clutches , becouse I've bought a sachs race clutch from their catalog stated as ABY for my 3B engine and DahlBack said it fill fit defenetly.

I never had a chance to install it and check it.

By catalog it is the same number for 3B ABY or ADU.

                  for Mihnea !

Mihnea, my type 85 Coupe quattro had the original 016 5 speed box, it did hold okey @ 413.7 lbs/ft. Maximum torque was at 3,150 RPM, as opposed to the normal 228 lbs/ft @ 1,950 RPM. These 016 boxes are based on the Audi 100 (type 44) FWD boxes, and being developed at a time Audi was very competitive in motorsport (group B rallying) they could handle a lot more torque than the road versions could produce. In short, they had a very large safety margin. I replaced it later with an RS2 6 speed item.

Sweeper, ABY / ADU clutches are NOT compatible with RR / 3B engines, unless the RR / 3B flywheels are changed for the dual mass versions.
