    AAN into type85 using 016

Searched high and low but no definitive answer. Fitting AAN engine and loom into a type85 Quattro, using stock 016 transmission for ease and because its tough unit that serves well.....

Question 1 - What flywheel can i use? I have a couple of 7a flywheels here but heard an RR or 3B is best... if i can use 7a flywheel what clutches are available and suitable for 300-350lb/ft mark (thats safety margin inclusive)....

Question 2 - Do i need a needlebearing swap and what thrust bearing for input shaft shall i use as it needs a new one anyway whilst engine is out.

    cheers in advance

Jamile is correct. Use the wr flywheel and a sachs performance clutch. That way the flywheel is the correct thickness to mate to the 016 and it also has the fring marker pin. Don't forget to NOT use the spacer ring from the AAN as that is only needed for the dual mass flywheel on the later box. Or you could drill your KV flywheel and put the pin in yourself.

AAN doesn't have a spacer between the engine and gearbox.

I got a spare 200 20V flywheel with Sachs clutch that fits your 016 GB.

            Jay,

Mine is an AAN in a type 85 with 016 box. I personally wouldn't use the WR flywheel its a poor design and very heavy with all the metal being in the wrong place...

I would use the flywheel off a UR 20v or a 200 quattro (3b) i.e has no needle bearing in the flywheel which allows the input shaft to pass through it and locate the crank (not sure what the S2 3b is like)

You will need to fit a needle bearing in the crank but check before you buy it as there are two sizes.

When you remove the spacer plate you will need to fit the dowel that aligns the engine to box, one will remain in place hence only need to purchase one. Its only a cheep part from Audi.

Use a clutch of your choice to match the flywheel job done...

just to clarify, i only have engine so will be using stock 016 gearbox and bolts, no spacer plates here...

so a 20v RR or 3B flywheel and the necessary needle bearing then find a good sachs clutch suitable for 3b engine. I'm guessing a new KV thrust bearing in bellhousing will be fine?

Just check the flywheel, I dont think the 3b S2 is the same as the 3b 200, you want the later.

No spacer plate required. If you have the engine you will be able to see if you have the two locating dowels in place.

Yes KV thrust bearing should be fine.

yes they are different, S2 3B flywheel won't fit in the 016 GB, the 200 3B flywheel will.

so if you use the origonal flywheel and drill it for the pin, you still the bearing correct? are we talking a bout a toe bearing here?
im now gonna fit 20v upto an 016 box but im using a 3b motor
