    Heavy vibration.

    Hey.

Managed to kill a rear CV joint when launching without the rear diff locked.

Had some trouble locating a new one that would fit so i bought a used complete drive shaft instead. Worked out much cheaper to. When i ordered the used drive shaft i made sure that i ordered the correct one since right and left are different length.

Fitted "new" drive shaft. And when i go upwards of 25km/h i feel a thud thud thud in the chair. I cant hear anything but i can feel it.

Now the million dollar question. What is it that is not right? Turning makes no difference. I think it comes on more when going into dips.

Been suggested its the prop shaft but cant really see that since it didn't do this before and the prop hasn't been down. Some say that the rear diff is pretty easy to kill when launching without it locked. So that i should change that.

Id rather not start to change parts at random though since thats usually pretty expensive

LOL have you been fixing cars under a rock (J/K) this is a standard Audi failure when playing around, since the brilliant engineers chose to make the outer joints hollow...

                  Wow! That is bent.

This is what happens when you go "playing"

Hope you get it all sorted out soon though.

                  Cheers,

                  Steve.

                    Talked to prop shaft specialist.
They said that with stock drive shafts and old original prop bearing theres no flex in the drive line. He suggested new stock prop and new bearing and then filling the rubber bit in the new bearing with a hard rubber compound to take out the flex of it. What do you guys think?

hehe, nicely done I gave up heavy launches about 3 days after I bought the car and had given the clutch a hard time. Seems best to get it rolling, even just a touch then nail it

I am also suffering some loud vibration noises and a less loud knoking noise. Front wheel bearings have ben changed recently and it's a lot louder than the noise one of the bearings was making prior to change.

Had the front left wheel in the air spinning while on the axle stand to see if I could identify what it is. No joy so far. Will try and work my way around the car and check the others. The vibration noise is bad and is totally wheel speed related.

Any other suggestions? How loud is the prop bearing when it goes? It's really resonating through the car. Maybe it's a combination of prop bearing and a slightly bent prop?

                          Thanks

Right, I've been out at lunchtime and had both front wheels up in the air one at a time. It would appear that I was wrong with the initial thought that the nearside was ok. It is much noisier from that side.
Can't see anything binding. Brakes have had the common problem of the groaning noise but this is much different.
It's strange that it only started after the tyres were changed on the front but I'm now on different wheels and tyres so it can't be them. Wondering if something was damaged when they were changing wheels but can't see what.
                            Again, any suggestions?

                            Thanks

                            Alistair

Might be driveshaft joint? Does it get better or worse when you are turning?
