    Standard Clutch....360 hp reliably ?

is a ABY standard clutch good for 360hp, or is it worth getting a after market clutch, will it last for long on a standard ABY item, cheers danny

I'm guesing you're talking around the 400-420 lb/ft torque ?, standard one will last if you take care of it, how long's the current clutch been there and how long has the car been running those figures, a complete standrd clutch should be about £250-300, if you plan doing the work yourself budget a complete day and plenty of spare nuts and bolts, plenty of thread around here with various clutch options tried and tested before you splash out

ABY clutch is same as an RS2 afaik and should be able to handle 360 ala a chipped RS2 which is 360-380

its the lower end torque that will kill it. mine is ok but the big blower is not on song yet so only aroung 350lbsft. no worries from me. still on standard one at 120k.

i got an uprated sachs and a 7a flywheel to fit when i dial in some boost.

I'm not convinved that the stock 3B clutch can take the abuse, seems to slip every now and again on a hard launch with stock turbo (330ftlbs). Poor, poor clutch :mischeif:

The ABY/RS2 clutch cannot take hard launches on a chipped RS2 set up.

Ask Ben and Matt about GTi this year. They both had clutch issues and both got spanked off the line by a certain dirty green ABY

NOTE: although when Ben got into 3rd and finally stopped his clutch from slipping, he came past me so fast that I started to think I was mashing the brake pedal by mistake

            Cheers n

              Thanks for mentioning that Si................
This was the first time I had an issue with the clutch and it was most likely operator error. (Put power on too soon changing into 2nd)
I have no issues with it now under 'normal' road driving.

Ben has a race clutch and lightened aluminium flywheel.

Sorry Matt , but Ben did spank me in the end so Avant revenge was had

I had forgotten that Ben had a paddle clutch, so was it wheel sping or clutch slip he had in 1st and 2nd?

                Cheers n

I was suffering with clutch spin going into third when I went up against yours. You had me off the line because I'm rubbish at staging. I wait for the lights to change before I start prepping

On one of the sunday runs the marshalls wouldn't set the lights until I started revving!!

By Sunday I was spinning the clutch going into second. It's pretty much toast now. Even driving slow it gives off a horrible chirp when taking up drive.

EKK! That is fairly worrying as I was planning on sticking with the ABY/ADU clutch when I eventually go to RS2 spec, but the way I treat my car I am not so sure now

Which clutch are you running Ben?

                    Cheers n
