  • V8 diff swap - how to

i will start this thread now since i am little bored

    Step 1:

Drain out all the oil from the diff:

    Step 2:

Remove the bolt that holds the Cv joints flanges in the diff and just pull them out:

The left one in this pic we are going to use ( sits on the right side of the car)

    Step 3:

Take away the Vacuum unit, sits with an clip on the underside,

    (bad picture)

Then it will look like this:

    Step 4:

Loosen all bolts that holds the lid on the left side:

Give it some bangs with the hammer then it pops loose

the lid from the inside ( here you can see where you should bang with the hammer, on the edges that sticks out, Do not bend with something between the lid and diff housing!

    Step 5:

Take out the huge o-ring seal on the left side of the diff, then it will look like this:

    Step 6:

Pull out the gear for the Locking mechanism, also pull out the big gear and tha arm thru the diff ( forgot to take piccy´s) you will need to loosen 4 adjuster bolts on the diff housing for this:

    Step 7:

Then just pull the diff straight out on the right side.

    Step 8:

here it is out from the housing, now time to remove the Crown wheel.

Remove all these bolts (10) from the diff:

Then you stick one of these down in the bolt-hole and give it a good whip with the hammer! (Hammer in diffrent holes so the wheel comes down straight and not in an angle)

    Voila!

Did you ever find the torque settings for the crown wheel bolts?
I found them on the forum when i did my Torsen swap but now i can't find them.... IIRC they were 60 or 80 Nm + 90degs or something like that
