At what point are you able to turn the engine by hand? Have you tried losening the bolts slightly arount the bell housing to see if it makes a difference?
If the clutch isn't fouling part of the bell housing, it could simply be that the gearbox input shaft is being pushed too far into the flywheel creating too much preload on the gearbox front bearing and crank thrust washers.
Not sure about the 6 speed, but a lot of manufaturers use a spacer plate between the gearbox and the bell housing. Could it be this that is missing, or due to the mix o parts being used, is now too thin? You could try spacing the gearbox away from the engine with a washer at each mounting bolt and dowel hole. If the engine turns, you know you are onto something.
Hope you get it sorted.
Paul.

I take it you are mating them up on the car or on a bench?....Will be something simple ....When you bolt them together does the shaft slide in no problem or are you having to use bolts to feed in ?...Crank sensor/Speed sensor no fouling the flywheel ?.....can you slacken belhousing bolts and move box out a fraction to see if it will turn?
Cheers

Right seems every one is on the right wave length.
The box and engine go together well the shaft fits in fine.
The engine turns untill the bolts have to do the last 4mm.ChefComment

Maybe you are not trying to turn engine hard enough. I have heard this, then it was tried to put MC1 (thick) flywheel with 7A clutch disk, and MC1 pressure plate on AAN equipped B4 CQ which was originally 7A powered. Don't know exact details, however problem description was the same (not mentioning flywheel bearing). Project was rescued by using 7A flywheel and clutch. Moral of whole story is to check if pressure plate is touching something.

I thought you were using the DSY box from an S4, I've read that they need some alteration before they will fit.
Try putting some paint / grease / plastercine on the clutch, it will make it easier to see where or if it is hitting the bellhousing?
Do you have the correct spigot bearing in the flywheel?sigpic

Having to pull a box in the last 4mm seems a lot. Even on boxes with tight dowels they can be pushed home by hand. 9 times ot of 10, if it has to be clamped home, then something is fouling!??
I would remove the clutch completely and test fit the box to see if it cures the problem.
If it's ok with the clutch out, then you know it's a problem with the clutch. If its still the same then your problem lies with the clearance or alignment of the gearbox imput shaft.
As a matter of interest, have you checked that the clutch isn't fouling of the release fork? If not, also fit the box with the clutch in and the fork left out to eliminate that as well.

Sounds to me that something is bottoming out either the shaft going into the spiget bearing or the splines on the input shaft in the clutch plate i would check both to see if you can see how far they have slid together. Is there any chance the clutch plate can go in the wrong way round.never set your expectations to high that way you are never disapointedComment

if you use the thin flywheel, you need the spacer, between the tranny and engine, if you use the thick singelmass flywheel, you may NOT need the spacer...Comment
