    How mount flywheel on lathe?

Took my flywheel into college today to try machine some weight of it, however its too big fit in the chuck, anyone know how to manage to mount it easily? The fella in the workshop had two ideas, one was make a boss to bolt flywheel to, which seem'd time consuming and possible to make errors. Or mount in the chuck using the spigot bearing boss and use a centre in the tail stock to keep held against the chuck as the boss was only being held by the chuck by few mm.

Off topic, does any one know how to tap the bearing out of the 3b flywheel? Does it just knock out with a rubber mallet?

Mounting it on the spigot bearing boss works fine, i didnt even use a centre end it held fine. But if your going to face off the friction plate side its best to make a boss and face it off before you bolt the flywheel on then you wont get a wobbly clutch. I only used 4 bolts so there's less to drill and tap.

Then if you can find someone with a cnc milling machine and get the outer edges done.

You can get them to inder 7 kilo's if your careful.

There is a nice new cnc mill sitting beside the lathe, which i will be using next couple weeks for my class project so maybe ill do outside edge then, however not too sure about doing the outer part, even if is where most benefit per gram exists

so the boss for the spigot bearing is man enough then, ill just go down that route, might have a bash at tomorrow again. i reckon theres about 3kg in the sloping bit upto the ring gear and for every 4mm taken off the back its a kg as well, so possibly get down to 7.5 this way from the stock 11.5 the 7a fly is
