    01E 6 speed (B5 S4) in my 200 20v?

    Hey guys,

I have done a quick search and have browsed around a bit and I can;t come up with a definite answer. Anyway, I am picking up another transmission for my B5 S4 and I plan to repair the one coming out of it. I was wondering if anyone had the details on what I'd need to do to swap it into my 91' 200 20v?

From what I understand, the bell housing bolts right to the 3B but that's obviously not all that matters.

Will I need different axles and drive shaft? Will the final drive match my stock rear end? What clutch and flywheel? Shift linkage? Transmission spacer? Slave cylinder? Transmission mounts? Subframe?

Any info on this swap would be greatly appreciated!

Also, would it be worth all the effort just because I have a spare 01E? Is the 016 far inferior the the 01E?

    Thanks,
    Nick

to that qest: you have to read the diff code on the tranny ( between the upper bolts in the bellhousing; fx CBL 23456) or under the rear diff( to the road; there are the stamped the diff code( like AEC ) PM THOSE , so i can check out the ratio and year...
then you have to desider the change; there are lots of diff type of flywheel and clutches.... you need the linkage for the 6tr trannys( they are diffent too... some users does have to use 2pc of the righthand propchafts too( to the s2 car)
ALL trannys will fit by the bolt pattern.... some does have dual bolt pattern ( also for 4pot enginesalso for the diesels one)

I don't see any point in changing the tranny? The 016 is as durable as 01e. Of course you'd get the 6th gear, but personally I don't think that's worth the trouble.

016 is a good strong gearbox... Used widely on many high powered quattros with little or no problems. Some versions have odd gear ratio spacing which is the only real grumble.
