UrS4 Gearbox removal on the drive.

    Hi all.
    Bit of advice appreciated please.
Sometime this week I'm looking at taking the gearbox out of my breaker.
It's not got an engine or propshaft attached. I'm planning on getting the front up on some axle stands.
    I'm hoping it's just:
    Inner driveshaft allen bolts.
Clutch slave left attached but hose/pipe? disconnected.
Some form of crossmember bolts out/crossmember off?

Looking from inside the car I have the linkage dis-assembled but still have the linkage bar going forward through a hole ??(I've not looked too hard at this yet) Does that have to be disconnected from underneath at the box end first?
Also there's a stubby bar (2 inch long x 10mm diameter?) going backwards that looks like it will hit the hole it's supposed to drop through if it drops with the box?

I know the box weighs a tonne but I'm going to try and pack it up underneath with wood or something in layers and remove them piece by piece to get it on the deck. I may look at putting some rope through a bell housing bolt and hanging it off the strut brace.
I'm then hoping that by pulling the box forward (when off) and into the empty engine bay I'll then be able to jack the front of the car higher, possibly remove the front bumper and drag it out that way.

    Any pointers? Tips? Hints?

Disconnect driveshafts, disconnect slave hoses or disconnect slave from gearbox (might be easier), disconnect linkage from gearbox, swear with procon cables. That's about it.

Seems your gear box is hanging with only 2 supports on the body. Gearbox is heavy compared to some other gearboxes, but even I could manhandle it around (192cm and 72kg ) I put my spareparts car on 4 axle stands as high as my guite basic jack could lift it and there was enough room to move gearbox out from between axels.
All quattro products have been dermatologically tested, and are safe for daily use.

I pulled mine out yesterday to get at the rear oil seal.

Took me less than three hours to get it out with the engine in place and on axle stands. Be prepared to wrestle!

Right. I've had a closer look at this and have a couple of questions:

The yellow and green ringed bits of the linkage have to go through the floor through the only visible exit (red ringed bit.)
The yellow and the green bits are seperate from each other and it looks like the green bit may go through but the yellow bit looks too wide for the hole.
1/As the box drops do the linkages get pulled through without fouling. If so it must be a right pain to put back up.
2/Do I have to undo the linkages at the other end under the car first.
3/What's the score with the procon cables? Am I going to end up with the box hanging by them in mid air? Are there bolt-on brackets under there?

Easier to disconnect linkage from gearbox first. I can try to check proper procedure for Procon cables once I'm at home (don't have ELSA on work 'puter)

            I'd appreciate that.
I could cut the cables but I guess they're very tough and very thick.
            Thanks
