i am removing my gearbox from my S2 avant at the weekend, its noisey in 1st gear but otherwise seems perfect..
what sort of money would it be worth if it was repaired with a new gear and whatever bearings and seals it needed?
im trying to work out if its worth me getting it done to sell it or just sell as it is..
I could be wrong but im pretty sure replacing 1st gear when they're whiney is a pretty expensive job. I know on an RS4 box you're looking at around £800 from what i was told and they arent that dissimilar
FWIW 1st gear seems to be noisey on most Audi S cars and seem to live long happy lives despite this whine

I had my gearbox fully serviced whilst the clutch was being changed a few years ago.
I think it cost £600 for the service - good as new afterwards. Took a full 6 months to bed in and loosen up a bit!
Hi Lloyd, where did you get your 'box rebuilt? Had a fresh (not new, couldnt get one apart from Audi) crown wheel & pinion fitted to my box & i think it still whines! The company did it for free as they had my box a month. Bought a s/h box off someo ne on here and darent use it as 1st & 2 nd are really difficult to select. Got the diagrams off Baltiboy, gonna try & repair the later box myself.
I would recommend you try either of these guys for a top quality gearbox job.
JP Race started my box but broke their tool trying to open the box.
It then got sent to the second firm below to do the job.
Just checked the bill, it cost £665
