    What gearbox

    Hello everyone,

As you can see I'm new to this forum..
I have a question, hopefully you can help me

    The question:
    I have a opel [vauxhall] kadett c coupe and a audi 80 2.3 5cylinder

The opel [vauxhall] is RWD and the audi is FWD but it's placed in line
So i want to put the 2.3 engine in the opel [vauxhall] and make it turbocharged with S2 parts..

But my question now is what gearbox could i use that fits the audi engine so that i could make it RWD??
The quattro gearbox? is the quattro gearbox 50/50 so it can be 100% at the rear?

    Thanks!

for clarification on here.... Use an 016 quattro box, from type85 audi quattro. Remove front differential from the box, this saves the weight (7.8kg i think for diff unit). Use blanking plates for the differential housing, i'm getting some made up from scratch but you can tig weld up the stock bellhousing. Lock centre differential, you can do this by holding the pushrod in the locked position. This means 100% power to rear (minus losses through gears and the hollow shaft) and can revert the box back to Quattro if needed.

HTH and i'll get some picks of my gearbox rebuild when i get round to it.

OR ; use the VOLVO bellhousing from the diesel volvo 240/245/ 740/940... with manuell trans....
they does right fit/ bolt on at every audi/ vw engine 5/6/v8 petrol or diesel...
then go for the adapterplate( between the volvo diesel bellhousing and the tranny) for the bmw getrag trannys( some of them have the bolt on bellhousing, not in the casting with the tranny..; then you have the RWD car with audi( any audi) engine and lots of fun...

im sure with the bellhousing; i does have this " missing link" at home...volvo P/N 1023542

But i think it's easier for me to use the quattro gearbox.. and fabricate it like ''Puglife'' said.

Depends on the year of 100 i think... torsen unit will prob still work as the centre diff always takes up drive, using an 016 box allows the centre diff to be locked thus ensuring 100% power to rear... The cost of an 016 gearbox is prob £100... modifications can always be reverted back to quattro.

I'll try get some pics next week of my spare gearbox on the stand.

this one is of a 1986/1987 audi 100.. i think i'm just gonna have to buy that gearbox and take it apart.
                  but pictures are welcome..

do you maybe know how heavy a 2.3 I5 engine is?
because you've put a I5 engine in a mk1, how would it drive with the heavy nose and light rear end ?

Full s2 engine with manifolds and turbos is about 180kg....
Gearbox with differential weighs 62kg... prob about 50kg with front diff removed.
Gearbox will bolt up to any 5cylinder audi engine fine.

i've moved it back in the bay so less than half the engine is in front of the front axle centreline. rear differential, battery, fuel system, radiator all moved to the boot. I expect 55-45 weight distribution roughly.

you may used the org vw passat 32b ( syncro)/ quantum. rear end... it have the org rear tubing , like the org vw golf 2,and the short audi diff like we see in the pics: its direct fit in the car, with 239x10 disc brakes +++
