    quattro and handbrake

On dry tarmac(at low speeds when wheight transfer don't get your rear out) i use the handbrake to get the rear of the car out and after that push the gas pedal and slide.I can't lock the rear unless i pull the clutch.
So,different tire size is bad for torsen. What about handbrake?
When you pull the handbrake it is like you have huge tire on the rear(they spin very slow) and very small tire on the front(they spin very fast)
Is hand brake bad for torsen or not?
I hope we'll discuss about using handbrake and weight transfer sliding.
In my opinion weightt transfer is to prefer because you don't loose boost.Handbrake(especially when you pull the clutch) lets you boostless

You can pull the hand brake with a torsen centre diff it wont damage it.

I have done this on all my cars with no broken boxes.

i opened my torsen today. The pinions are not in the best shape but they look exactly like a year ago.I simulated some operating conditions, and:
If the front and rear exit of the torsen are spinning with the same speed the internals of the torsen are not mooving(like a loked diff),and the input and booth outputs of the torsen are spining with the SAME speed.
When you block the rear exit of the diff(handbraking) the front output is spinning faster than the input.
How do you allign the three outer pinions from front and rear exit? The torsen was blocked at first install but i changed the teeth position at those of two sets of three pinions and now it's working free.

the front is only spinning faster as there is no load on it. If you brake the rear wheels on the power it will divert more torque to the that axle. this is why Audi "torque vectoring" uses ABS to brake wheels that spin too fast and balances the torque to the wheels in that way as opposed to "electronic" oil control diffs

In coast the torsen should act like an open diff so no issues with damage etc from handbraking AFAIK

in my point of wiew, torsen deliveres torque where is spinning is possible. When you pull handbrake torque will be delivered to front. If you are running in engine braking you can consider wheels torque maker and engine the exit.

About torsen timing.Do you have something else?
the torsen oe part number in etka is identical from 1998 to 2005.Have you opened a6 2001 quattro gearbox to confirm torsen is identical?

              1988 to 2005 identical torsen(by oe code).
I replaced the"cap" of the torsen unit(inner bearing seat worn). The rear output shaft bearing has a little play, but till the end of the shaft(inside torsen) that play may be to mutch for the rear output pinion of torsen. The shaft has a bearing at one end(exit from gearbox) and on the other end just it just sits in the torsen.
I managed to do timing(i hope) with the info from the file atached upper.
I'm only writing theese for others to find useful info.I am very happy when finding tech info,so,i'll continue this.I'll try to make a video with my torsen opperation.

did you carry out the bearing / shim modification?

AFAIK there are two different "generatons" of torsen between 88 - 05, early one with needle bearings like i your pics and later ones with teflon coated shims.

Only changed what seemed to be worn with oe parts from another difs.
I'm interested to know how the shim modification helps.Playing with shims can:
1.hold the two inner pinions tight
2.hold the two inner pinions not so tight
3.hold the inner pinions more to front or more to the rear.(nothing changes, teeth profile is the same, only the place of the pinions contact changes)
