    RS2 6 speed

Gentlemen, I am a fluid change away from finishing the install of a RS2 6 speed into my 1999.5 A4 1.8t quattro but am confused by the drain/filler arrangement.
I note there is a drain plug on both the front differential case and the rear gear case. I can find a filler only on the front differential case (3 o'clock on the driver's side final drive cover), however. Is there only the single filler plug? Do the two cases share gear oil or is there a filler I'm not seeing for the rear gear case?
    Thank you in advance.

You certainly may. Indeed you have

I have an APR Stg III turbo kit and a SPEC light weight flywheel/ clutch combination installed as well. The gearing on the RS2 6 speed is far superior, for tracking and lower rev high speed cruising, to the NA gear ratios in the 1.8t 5 speed.

The NA NeuS4 6 speed gearing is a bit taller and it was cheaper to import a RS2 box than to buy a used NA NeuS4 box and swap the gears.

I should have more closely inspected the 6 speed for filler plugs before installing it but .... Any insight on my question?

I take it your current rear diff is a 37/9 ratio

I swapped the rear differential's ring and pinion to a 4.11 set to match the final drive in the 6 speed.

The centre differential and main gearbox casing share a common filler point, on the final drive cover, but have two seperate drain points, due to the recess in both sections. it ensures you can drain both sections completely if the need arises.

Have you ever set up a crown wheel and pinion before ?

                Thank you very much Vagsport.
That is as I suspected but I didn't wish to get to the 11th hour on this project only to do damage from a poor understanding.
I had downloaded an ErWin document on the CGR / CRB 01E 6 speed and reading thru that document seemed to support my notion. I am most thankful for your confirmation.
I also noted the information the gearbox level is 13mm from the port lip as opposed to the 7mm spec'd for the S2.

                  No and I still haven't
I said *I* for ease of writing the post. I purchased the 4.111 ring & pinion matched set and my local Audi dealer swapped in the ring and pinion for me. The tools, shims, knowledge and experience are beyond my skill set ( and my desire to learn this late in life )

You would of been better off in getting a gearbox specialist to do this job as it's normally beyond the capabilities of most dealerships

Dealer services do have a guarantee on the work, don't they? I'd say quite a safe option.

My local dealership is a Volkswagon, Porsche Audi dealer and their transmission technician has long experience with the diffs and transmissions found in US spec VAG and P cars. German Transaxle in Bend OR (about 6 hours south of me) spoke highly of the tech when I queried them about doing the swap so I went local rather than truck the diff down to Bend and back.

As i used to build gearboxes i've got a very good understanding as to what is involved in a job like this and it should really only be trusted to a specialist
